AC-09. Clinical Cases in Parasitology!

Summary of Session: Clinical unknowns are always a hoot, but more so when it comes to parasites. Come and join Brent Barrett and Julie Ribes as they discuss clinical cases from their labs at the Indian State Department of Health and the University of Kentucky. They will present cases in which the lab has made the diagnosis using some of the EIAs and techniques special staining techniques discussed in their prior teleconference, “Beyond the Routine O&P”.
Objectives: Upon completion of this Teleconference, participants should be able to:
- Present a differential diagnosis and plan for testing for those cases presented
- Discuss the diagnostic testing helpful in evaluating children seen in foreign adoption clinics, travel clinic, and refugee clinics for potential parasitic infections
- Recommend special staining or microscopic techniques required for identifying coccidian agents in clinical specimens
Intended Audience: Clinical Microbiologists, Medical Technologists, Med Tech students, Pathologists and Pathology Residents
