Summary of Session: The teleconference will discuss emerging infectious diseases including their monitoring and factors that affect emergence (or re-emergence). Examples of emerging infectious diseases will also be discussed.

Objectives: Upon completion of this Teleconference, participants should be able to:

  • Provide examples of governmental and non-governmental organizations that are involved in the monitoring of infectious diseases;
  • Identify the factors that can lead to the emergence of a “new” infectious disease; and
  • Discuss some of the likely emerging disease issues that will be faced with in the future.

Intended Audience: Medical technologists, physicians, and those with an interest in public health.
