Summary of Session: This lecture will summarize the currently available methods for culturing and identifying clinically important anaerobic bacteria, including use of selective media, special potency disks, identification kits, and genotypic identification methods.
Objectives: Upon completion of this Teleconference, participants should be able to: - Select identification level appropriate for different types of specimens;

Use appropriate methods for the group or species level of identification; and

Recognize the limits for all of the methods and how to achieve the most accurate identification, even if it is not the most specific.
Intended Audience: Clinical laboratory technologists, supervisors and lab directors and Division C.
