Originally Presented: June 17, 2009 August 12, 2009
Speaker: Melissa B. Miller
Summary of Session: This teleconference has been rescheduled to August 12, 2009. This teleconference will review the history and importance of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) with a primary focus on the emergence of community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA). The phenotypic and molecular identification of CA-MRSA and healthcare-associated MRSA will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the epidemiology of CA-MRSA in both community and hospital settings.
Objectives: Upon completion of this Teleconference, participants should be able to: - Describe at least three differences between community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA) and healthcare-associated MRSA;
-
Identify two molecular markers that can be used to categorize strains as CA-MRSA; and
-
Recognize the evolving role of CA-MRSA in both community and hospital settings.
Intended Audience: Clinical laboratory scientists, public health epidemiologists, and infection control practitioners.
