T098. Bacterial Identification by DNA Sequencing in a Clinical Laboratory
Date: July 28, 2010
Speaker: Alexander Mellman
Summary of Session: Species identification of bacteria using DNA sequencing, e.g. of the 16S rRNA gene or of the rpoB gene.
Objectives: Upon completion of this Teleconference, participants should be able to:
- Discuss methods and targets available for DNA sequence based identification of bacteria (e.g. 16S rRNA gene)
- Know different databases for sequence-based identification of microorganisms
- Discuss pitfalls and limitations of the methods
- Acquire an overview of technical and QC/QA aspects of diagnostic DNA sequencing
- Describe future technical developments and strategies for molecular identification of bacteria
Intended Audience: Clinical microbiologists, medical technologists, supervisors, managers, directors, pathologists, physicians, pharmaceutical industry QC, educators, epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists.
CME Disclosures: The Presenter has nothing to disclose.
Termination of CME Credit: This program will not be eligible for CME credit after July 28, 2011
