Summary of Session: Revised guidelines from CDC on prevention of perinatal Group B Streptococcal Disease are expected to be published early spring of 2010. This session will focus on reviewing these newly revised guidelines related to laboratory testing options for GBS screening in pregnant women.

Objectives: Upon completion of this Teleconference, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the newest guidelines from CDC on preventing perinatal GBS disease.
  • Explain the importance of collecting a quality specimen for GBS screening.
  • Review new developments in diagnostic testing for antepartum GBS colonization.
  • Describe options available for intrapartum GBS testing.

Intended Audience: This teleconference is intended for Medical Technologists, Laboratory Directors.
